LIVE FROM THE DRIVE: We're three hours into our Spring membership drive, and WUOL is lagging far behind our two sister stations already. Our WUOL listeners are slow to respond, but they usually do, eventually. If you'd like to contribute, go to WUOL.ORG now and pledge (hint, hint!).

LIVE FROM THE DRIVE: The Spring Membership Drive is here! I'm in the studio now with Frances Spano (our Development Director) and we're plugging away, trying to get our listeners to call in.

The first few on-air breaks are always a little rough. It takes time to get back into the pledge swing of things. But we're here asking for money and all is well. If we don't get many pledges this morning, however, I'll have to change my opinion... Stay tuned!

This has been a great week for guests here at WUOL. Tuesday, I had Elisabeth Hartwell, Louisville Ballet’s prima ballerina, in for a talk about their upcoming production of “Cinderella.” Liz is one of the sweetest persons you’d ever want to meet. She’s one heck of a dancer. I fall in love with her again and again every time I see her glide across the stage.

Yesterday I interviewed the guitarist Eliot Fisk, who is in town to perform with the Louisville Orchestra. He was very talkative and obviously very knowledgable on many different subjects. His passion for music and music education is infective. He also looks a lot like the television comedian Andy Dick. He even wears similar glasses!

Today Marc Masterson dropped by for a visit. He’s the artistic director for Actor’s Theatre of Louisville. They’re about to finish an incredible production of “Macbeth” that he directed. It is, simply put, an amazing production. They have only three actors who, by the use of masks, sillouettes and video cameras, play all the parts. Many times a production that relies heavily on technology diminishes the story. But in Macbeth’s case, the hardware complimented it. I was amazed. Marc is a friendly guy, too. It’s his second year here in Louisville. I hope he’ll stick around for a while.

All in all, a great week! Now, to prepare for the fund drive!!! :0

Welcome to Musical Notes! This is a kind of experiment. I'm combining the rock-solid, useful information available on WUOL's official site with the not-so useful mental meanderings of yours truly in this weblog. If you're not acquainted with the term, a weblog, or "blog" in its familiar form, is an on-line diary. Blogs have become the latest rage on the web. Thousands of people use blogs to tell the world how they feel about things. Some are political, some are humorous and some reveal the most intimate details about authors.

You won't get any intimate details about me here. But I will post my thoughts on various subjects relating to WUOL, classical music and my opinions many different, though related, subjects. This blog will be updated every weekday and, sometimes, on the weekend. So add this page to your "favorites" list and let's have some fun. Thank you for deciding to read my "Musical Notes!"
